What’s the Difference Between RAIM and WAAS?
RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) is a technology that allows a GPS receiver to independently assess the integrity of its position data, while WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) is a satellite-based system that enhances the accuracy and integrity of GPS signals by providing additional correction data, essentially making RAIM checks unnecessary when WAAS coverage is available; in simple terms, RAIM is a function within a GPS receiver that checks for potential errors, while WAAS is a separate system that actively improves GPS accuracy by sending correction signals.
